The area is teeming with superbly diverse natural surroundings. Meadows, pastures, wide open spaces. Rivers, lakes and streams. All set against a backdrop of mountain ranges and abundant rocky landscapes, with endless forest trees and biodiverse flora and fauna. In fitting with the habitat, Serre Chevalier sits on the edge of Parc National des Écrins, which forms part of the Écrins Massif mountain range.

Serre Chevalier, AKA ‘Serra-Che’ is one of the largest winter sports resorts in the Alps.

December through to April is ski season and Serre Chevalier receives good snow and has excellent skiing conditions across the vast area covering 250km slopes, with a base elevation of 1,200m and the highest point at 2,800m (Rocher de l’Yret). Overall, wonderful skiing in stunning surroundings, with many a treelined slope (a total of 115 to be exact).

Just like its surrounding neighbours in the region, like Montgenèvre, this area also basks in the glory of 300 days of sunshine a year – and, you can also be certain of fresh mountain air like no other.

There is ample choice of things to do and see, and lots of adventure to be had, in the summertime too. From walks and hikes to mountain bikes and cycling, mountain climbing and zip-lining, horse riding to rapids rafting, spa days and leisure parks, swimming and volcanic pools, guided tours and heritage sights, as well as a variety of organised events that take place throughout the year. Of course, the area plays host très bien, with an array of accommodation choices. A good place to start planning your trip is serre-chevalier.com.

Serre Chevalier should be high on your list of best family ski resort options in France for 2021/2022. With its all-around appeal, it’s the perfect snow – and summer holiday destination.
